The second day of the IND vs AUS third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane of the BGT saw some tough contests as Australia finished the day at 405/7, with some serious hammering by Steve Smith and Travis Head with centuries scoring 101 and 151 runs respectively. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the only warrior for India, taking a five-wicket haul in between Australia’s great attacking display of cricket.
Early breakthroughs for India
India’s bowling attack began the day with some positive outcomes, led by Jasprit Bumrah who struck early to dismiss Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney. These early wickets pegged Australia back momentarily, but Travis Head and Steve Smith stabilised the innings later. Nitish Kumar Reddy later claimed the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne, caught at slip by Virat Kohli, further indicating India’s intent in the opening session.
Smith and Head dominated the game
Despite losing early wickets, Australia found solace in the form of Steve Smith, who scored his 33rd Test century. Smith’s return to form was a big boost for the Aussies, as his innings had some precise drives and cuts. Meanwhile, the same old Travis Head continued his brilliant form against India with a magnificent century, showing his aggressive style with boundaries all around the park. Their 241 runs partnership was important, putting Australia in a strong position.

Bumrah’s fifer and Siraj’s small contribution
Jasprit Bumrah was relentless in his pursuit of wickets, and his fourth fifer in Australia was a show of his class and skill, his abily to find length is amazing. He bowled with consistent pace and accuracy, unsettling the Australian batsmen. Akashdeep supported Bumrah well, chipping in with key deliveries. Siraj also helped but not with the ball, but when he distracted Marnus Labuschagne with the bell incident, distracting him for the early wicket.
Australia’s late charge
Travis Head, alongside Alex Carey, put Australia’s score over 400 with some aggressive batting towards the end of the day. Carey played a useful cameo, taking full advantage of any loose deliveries, while Head continued his free-scoring form. Jadeja and Siraj faced the brunt of this assault, conceding boundaries as the day progressed. Akash deep was somewhat unlucky, as despite great bowling, he couldn’t scalp wickets. Australia’s strategy to accelerate in the final session put additional pressure on the Indian bowling lineup, and despite some resistance from the Indian bowlers, Australia ended the day in a strong position at 405/7.
