The MA Chidambaram Stadium will open the two new stands for the upcoming IND vs AUS 3rd ODI in March. Chepauk had two stands closed due to a long-standing conflict. Back in March last year, the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) approving TNCA’s proposal to upgrade the Chepauk stadium at Rs 139 crore. A Times of India report stated that TNCA has obtained permission to add 5,306 seats to meet the growing demand for tickets.

The stadium presently has a seating capacity of 31,140. The TNCA has also planned to take down the building at the Pavilion and Madras Cricket Club blocks and rebuild it. The stadium was last renovated in 2011 ahead of the cricket World Cup. The Chepauk stadium is the home of the four-time IPL Champions Chennai Super Kings since 2008.
