IND vs AUS: Hardik Pandya set to lead India in first ODI as Rohit gears up for Kunal Sajdeh’s wedding
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the first ODI against Australia. After impressing everyone by leading Gujarat Titans to victory in IPL 2022 season and leading India in T20Is, Pandya has a golden chance to show his captaincy credentials in ODIs. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is already heaping praise on Hardik’s captaincy and feels he should take over leadership from Rohit after the 50-over World Cup 2023.
“He has been an impressive captain. I have been very impressed with his captaincy at the T20 level for the Gujarat Titans and for India when he is captaining the T20 side. I do believe that if he wins the first game in Mumbai, then you can almost stamp him as the India captain once the World Cup is over in 2023,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports Game Plan
Rohit will likely be the skipper of the ODI team till the World Cup 2023. But with the next showpiece event set to be played in 2027, it is highly unlikely the India opener will be in charge owing to his age.
