Rohit Sharma to replace Shubman Gill at 3? Ex-India batting coach gives advice for Hitman’s awful form

In 24 Test innings so far, Rohit Sharma has made 607 runs at an average of just 26.39, which is the lowest-ever for him in a calendar year (min 350 runs scored).

Former India batting coach and an expert at the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sanjay Bangar, has an advice for Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper has looked out of sorts with the bat ever since he stepped Down Under. In 3 innings, Rohit has scored just 19 runs, which is less than what even Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep have mustered in the series so far.

IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma to bat at No. 3?

Owing to this, Bangar has a special suggestion for Rohit. Incredibly, it was a bit surprising for the cricketer-turned-commentator to ask Rohit to bat at number three. Yes, Bangar has asked the Indian captain to bat one down, meaning he has to replace Shubman Gill. Bangar suggests so due to the fact that it can allow India to add “sharpness” to India’s bowling lineup as well. “That is a mantra for any batter. I feel he can do two things. One, can he come to bat at No. 3 because if we have to strengthen our bowling a little and add a little sharpness, he can definitely change his number,” Bangar told Star Sports.

Bangar’s sentiments were also shared by another former Indian cricketer in Aakash Chopra. Chopra voiced that Rohit should bat at number three and replace his number six slot with Shubman Gill. “Rohit can think of one thing if he wishes. Come at No. 3 and send Shubman down the order,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Rohit Sharma getting late in his shots?

Apart from this, Bangar even suggested Rohit Sharma prepare and play a little early. He concerned that Rohit’s bat isn’t moving freely, something that is playing part in his dismissals.

“Apart from that, prepare yourself a little early. It seems like he is getting slightly late and he is also getting late because we saw his bat not going forward for his favorite pull shot. He generally doesn’t miss the pull shot. It’s a signal for every batter whether he is playing his best shot or not,” he added.
