Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli lead India’s first practice after Adelaide loss, Bumrah-Siraj rested

Team India will fly to Brisbane on December 11, while Australia have already reached at the Gabba. The 3rd Test begin from December 14.

On what was supposed to be the fifth day of the 2nd Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test, India organised a training session in Adelaide. The Rohit Sharma-led side is still reeling from their crushing 10-wicket defeat. And to make amends, they practiced in full throttle on Tuesday, December 10. Despite it being an “optional” session, almost all the BGT squad players hit the nets, including skipper Rohit and Virat Kohli.

Out-of-form Rohit, Kohli hit the nets in Adelaide

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are enduring their worst years in Test cricket so far. Runs have dried up, pressure continues to mount, and the veteran duo has more question marks than answers. While Rohit averages a meagre 11 in his last 12 Test innings, Kohli averages around 22 so far this year across formats—his worst ever.

Regardless, India hopes for better performance come the third BGT Test. Both Rohit and Kohli are thus leaving no stone unturned in order to get ready for the next clash. Alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill, Kohli was among the first ones to come out for practice. According to journalist Vimal Kumar, before facing throwdowns, Kohli warmed up by bowling to Gill.

As for Rohit, he warmed up at the Adelaide Oval before hitting the nets with his fellow mates. Rishabh Pant was also there, facing some spin of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Incredibly, according to Revsportz, Rohit didn’t bat well in the nets as well. He seemed to lack confidence in the second Test and might not have had an ideal net session today as well. However, it was great to see him try his best and we all know that Rohit would eventually regain his form back.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj rested?

With this being a five-match Test series, India need to keep their pace battery fresh and raring to go. Jasprit Bumrah needs to be handled with care. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj also bowled well enough in Adelaide. Hence, to keep them injury-free and fresh, India opted to rest both of them in the practice session. Instead, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna, one of whom is likely to feature in Brisbane, bowled for more than an hour. While both Bumrah and Siraj didn’t bowl, they entered the field and worked with the strength and conditioning coach.
