It seems like Team India coach Gautam Gambhir has had enough. After Team India went from 121/3 to 155 all out, Gambhir had some stern words with the boys. “Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough),” the former opener seems to have told the team, as per a report in the Indian Express. The report further suggested, that the coach, though didn’t name anyone in his address, but slammed the players for playing poorly, in the name of “natural game”.
Gautam Gambhir Unimpressed with Team India?
Furthermore, it is learnt that after joining as the head coach, Gautam Gambhir gave the players enough time to play on their own, but that time is passed now. It is him, who will decide as to how to go about things. In fact, if the players don’t adhere to the pre-match strategy, they might be given a “thank you”.
Not just that, the former cricketer also addressed the issue of the batsmen, and how they had been underperforming ever since the Bangladesh Test series in September. To add to the woes, it is learnt that Gambhir wanted last series hero Cheteshwar Pujara in the squad, but his request was not entertained. That was the case after the win in the 1st Test at Perth.
Issues Galore During IND vs AUS Series
Surprisingly, there is an unnamed player in the team, who seems to be showcasing himself as the “Mr Fix It”, the report suggests. The challenges do not end there for the team. It seems that Rohit Sharma, who has been battling poor form and captaincy, hasn’t been there for the players, like he was in previous series’.
Rohit Sharma to Retire Soon?
Of course, there is the example of R Ashwin, who decided after the third Test to announce his retirement, stating there was a lot more cricket left in him. His father had also suggested that his retirement cam after his son was subjected to “humiliation”. Plus, there are already multiple reports that Rohit Sharma might take a call on his career too, after this tour.
The first Test that the Indian team had won — there was a selection debate there too, where Gautam Gambhir wanted Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar, but that wasn’t a unanimous decision. There were also questions raised over Akash Deep’s non-selection in the pink ball Test, where Harshit was rather ineffective.
