Speaking ahead of the 4th test, Rohit Sharma has hinted at a change in his side with Ishan Kishan likely to get the nod ahead of KS Bharat. Bharat featured in all three Tests in the series so far, but has only twice managed to score in double digits. Rohit admitted that conditions were difficult which Bharat made his debut, and there were plenty of opportunities left for the Andhra star to impress.
“Slightly unfair to judge KS Bharat on these kind of wickets. Need to give him some room. I told him to not worry, he will get enough time to prove himself. Even when Ishan Kishan gets his chance, we won’t drop him after two games,” Rohit Sharma said in his press conference.
India has been thrown into the wicketkeeper conundrum due to Rishabh Pant’s absence. The left-hander had become India’s best batter in the lineup and provided balance with his keeping and stroke-making. In his absence, India called up KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan, the latter being a more like-to-like replacement.
Rohit said, “Pant is a big miss, we know what he can with the bat. And keeping he has done so well. Since Pant was not available, we got Ishan.”
The surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium is expected to be the best batting wicket of the series. Kishan has his fair share of trouble against spin but offers a more counter-attacking approach in the middle. Like Pant, Kishan if set, can quickly take the game away from the opposition.
Ishan has been playing well in the limited-overs format, scoring a double-century in an ODI match against Bangladesh in December.
