The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will host the fifth and final Test between India and Australia, which will determine the winner of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia currently leads the series 2-1, so a win or a draw would secure the trophy for them for the first time in ten years. India, the defending champions, need at least a draw to retain the trophy.
This marks India’s 14th Test at the SCG, having first played there in December 1947 during their maiden tour of Australia. One of the world’s oldest cricket grounds, the SCG hosted its first Test match in February 1882, becoming the venue for the second match of India’s 1947/48 tour. However, the game was largely uneventful due to heavy rain, which caused disruptions throughout the match. The SCG has since become a historic and iconic venue in world cricket.
