IND vs AUS 5th Test: Do or Die scenario for India to retain Border Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney

India needs to win the Sydney Test at all costs to help retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy

It is now or never for the India Cricket Team as the Border Gavaskar Trophy nears its end. The visitors are currently trailing 2-1 down and the only way to retain the Test series would be a victory in the IND vs AUS Sydney Test. A win will not only help India retain the series but also act as a catalyst in helping India stay in the hunt for the WTC Finals.

India won the Perth Test convincingly and was then handed a costly defeat in the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide. Come the Gabba Test, the match ended in a draw as rain played spoilsport. And then in the Melbourne Test, Australia once again gained the upper hand in winning the game and leading the series 2-1.

India need to fight to stay in contention for WTC Finals

As things stand it is Do or Die for Team India. A win is all that is needed in Sydney. After the Boxing Day Test loss, Rohit Sharma went on to say that India will eyeing for the win at all costs. And this is crucial to help India stay in the hunt for the WTC Finals.

The dynamics are quite simple. India needs to win the last Test to draw the series 2-2. And then India will have to hope Sri Lanka either wins 1-0 or 2-0 later on when they take on Pat Cummins and Co in the Test series. But India can worry about the other results later on, and worry about the things that they can control.

Save the Perth Test, India has never looked dominating in any of the Test matches. And with rain eyeing to play spoilsport in the Sydney Test, India will have to take the aggressive front to remain on top of their game and dominate the Aussies.
