India’s previous test match at the Gabba was the fourth test of their 2020/21 tour, which they won by three wickets to seal the series 2-1. Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara batted heroically as India chased down the target of 328 runs in the last hour of day 5. That victory remains one of the most memorable wins in the history of test cricket. India kept losing players to injury throughout the series. Only two players, Pujara and Rahane, played in all four tests in that series.
Last IND vs AUS match in Gabba
Batting first, Australia posted 369 through Marnus Labuschagne’s century. In reply, India were in trouble at 186/6 before two-test old Shardul Thakur and debutant Washington Sundar forged a brilliant partnership, both of them hitting half-centuries, to take India to 336.
In Australia’s second innings, Siraj took a five-for and Thakur took four wickets to bowl the hosts out for 294. In the chase of 328, Gill cracked 91 runs, while Pujara batted for 211 balls, scoring 56 runs and copping numerous blows on his body.
Pant then produced the most famous innings of his test career to slam 89* runs, including hitting the winning runs. As India go to the Gabba again with the series 1-1, they will look back at these fond memories from 2021 and take confidence from their unbelievable victory.
