IND vs AUS 2nd Test, Day 1: Labuschagne, McCweeney frustrate India as Australia trail by 94 runs at stumps

IND vs AUS 2nd Test: Australia trail India by 94 runs at the end of play on Day 1 as Labuschagne and McSweeney hold their forts

IND vs AUS 2nd Test: In the second innings, the Aussies batted well, and frustrated the Indian bowlers. Despite trying, Jasprit Bumrah could only remove Usman Khawaja. Amidst all this the lights went off twice in the final session of the day. Labuschagne and McSweeney managed to hang on, frustrating India and leading Australia to trail by 94 runs at stumps on Day 1.

It was poor start for Team India after tea as well, as Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply by Scott Boland. India were reduced to 87/5. Post that, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy got into a shell as runs were hard to come by. But Pant unfortunately could not sustain the pressure and was out for 21. But then after losing a few partners, Nitish Reddy decided to go for his shots and took India to 175/8. But then the innings finally folded at 180.

Team India won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma went in with three changes from the Perth Test. Rohit came in for Devdutt Padikkal, Shubman Gill for Dhruv Jurel, and R Ashwin came in for Washington Sundar.

It has been over 10 days since Team India scripted history in Perth and took a 1-0 lead in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). It was a magical effort by Jasprit Bumrah and his boys, but now the incumbent skipper returns in Rohit Sharma. However, he hasn’t returned as an opener, sacrificing his opening spot to the successful opening duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. A green top surface awaits in Adelaide, where Australian skipper Pat Cummins would be rearing to make amends.
