IND vs AUS 1st Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal & KL Rahul eye 100s, India aim for 400+ lead on Day 3

IND vs AUS 1st Test: KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be eyeing to get to their hundreds on Day 3 as India will hope to amass a 400+run lead

Day 3 of IND vs AUS 1st Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth is expected to offer the batters more assistance and hence allow India to accumulate a huge lead. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will be eyeing to carry forward the momentum from Day 2 as they are nearing their hundreds. Australia have a tall task at hand, especially after the Perth surface nothing to offer for the Aussie bowlers on Day 2. India will resume their innings at 172/0 on Day 2.

KL Rahul, Jaiswal ton likely on IND vs AUS 1st Test Day 3

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put forth a solid display of Test cricket batting on Day 2, guiding India to a firm 218-run lead. Unlike the 1st innings when both batters were dismissed cheaply, the duo took on the Aussie bowlers, answering boldly while dominating the bowlers for over two sessions. Jaiswal, who will resume his innings on 90 runs, will be eyeing his first hundred on Australian soil. SENA veteran KL Rahul is not far behind, although he has been more patient compared to his partner’s ‘Jazball’ technique. The duo will look to frustrate the Aussies further on Day 3 and help India amass a huge lead.

400 lead inevitable unless there’s a collapse

Unlike the 1st innings, the Indians and the surface has shown much more maturity and is currently acting in favour of the hosts. Australian pacers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh hardly found success in the 2nd innings, and have been dealt with strongly by the pair of KL Rahul and Jaiswal. The hosts even tried the spin option, giving Nathan Lyon a chance to get a breakthrough. But, nothing worked in favour of Australia. While it is highly unlikely that the surface would offer any assistance to the pacers on Day 3, Australia will count on their spin options to get a breakthrough.

On the other hand, the only way Australia can capitalize on Day 3 is if the Indian batting order witnesses a collapse. As it so often has been witnessed in the past, India’s top-order have collapsed like a pack of cards following a strong start and a sudden couple of breakthroughs. India will be hoping that will not be the case on Day 3 as they are currently riding high on confidence.
