“Change my guard, open my stance, a front-on stance on India due to lack of balance. I change little things here and there. It is very important to have a solid plan against Indian spinners, as if you don’t have one then you pretty quickly go back to the pavilion,” Smith said.

IND vs AUS 1st Test: Labuschagne, & Alex Carey prepare for Ashwin challenge, duo ready for the spin test
“In India, you need to be prepared for spinners, because the pitches here will spin more,” Labuschagne said. The number one ranked Test batter feels tackling Ashwin will be key since he always comes up with master plans to get rid of batters. The off-spinner thrives playing against Australia, as he has taken 89 wickets in 18 Test matches.
“A hundred percent. I think that’s what I like about Ashwin. I think his thoughts about the game, his thinking, the way he manufactures overs, the way he tries to get you out in a certain area. But also the way he might not go to that area early. So, he might be attacking you on the inside edge for a while, and then he’ll bowl that one, which he undercuts and slides away and get you caught first slip,” Labuschagne said.
Wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey believes adapting quickly to Indian conditions will be key. The southpaw also feels reverse swing will play a major part in India, and playing pacers well will also be key.
IND vs AUS: Why Australia are vary of Ashwin among the four India spinners?

- During the last Border Gavaskar Trophy in India, the off-spinner picked up 21 wickets in four Test matches.
- The veteran spinner also loves bowling to left-handers picking up over 200 wickets. Australia have quite a few lefties, and Ashwin will pose a huge threat.
- Ashwin also has plenty of variations up his sleeve and always mixes things up, which makes batters’ task all the more difficult.
- Unlike other India spinners, Ashwin always attacks the batters with a solid game plan. He also bowls ugly to be effective.
