IND vs AFG: Virat Kohli back with Team India, Where will Shubman Gill play?

With Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to be back, Where will Shubman Gill play in India playing XI for IND vs AFG 2nd T20I

The India Cricket Team registered a comfortable 6 wicket win in the IND vs AFG 1st T20I. But now the confusion starts. Virat Kohli missed the first game owing to personal reasons. With the star batter back, where will Shubman Gill feature as Yashasvi Jaiswal is also likely to be fit for the next clash.

Team India find themselves in a precarious situation. Where will Shubman Gill play? With Rohit Sharma back in the T20I squad, one spot is gone. For the other spot, Yashasvi Jaiswal is a strong contender as he provides the option of a left-right handed opening pair.

Like in Tests, Gill can try batting in at number 3, but now to no avail. Star batter Virat Kohli is back in the T20I setup and is expected to play on his preferred position. Previously, Rahul Dravid went on to dismiss the idea that Rohit and Kohli won’t open in T20Is, the but the team will keep that option open.

With opening spot and one down gone, where can Gill play? He can try at Number 4, but Tilak Varma is trying his best to solidify the spot in SKY’s absence. So can Gill possibly play down the order? That is a highly unlikely case, as India have quite a few destructive middle order batters.

No Shubman Gill in India Playing XI?

It will be a foolish idea to leave Shubman Gill on the bench, especially when the T20 World Cup is just 5 months away. With him leading Gujarat Titans in IPL, India will have to sort out their selection conundrum. In order to fit all the usual suspects, India will likely slot Gill at number 3.

Rohit and Yashasvi opens, Gill at 3 while Kohli slots in at 4. Tilak bats at 5 with Jitesh and Rinku comprising the lower order. This in fact means, India will have to leave out the likes of Washington Sundar from their Playing XI.
