IND vs AFG: Sunil Gavaskar makes blunt remark on Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli’s T20I return

Sunil Gavaskar also questioned if Rohit Sharma, who made T20I return after 14 months, was even interested in being in the middle.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar reckons that veteran duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s return to T20I setup for the IND vs AFG ‘made little sense’.

In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar criticised Rohit Sharma’s shot selection in the first two T20Is and questioned if the Indian skipper was even interested in being in the middle.

“Bringing back Rohit Sharma and Kohli for the three-match series against Afghanistan made little sense, and the manner in which the skipper got out to the first ball he faced in the second game made one wonder if he is even interested in being out there”, Gavaskar wrote on his column.

“Having gotten run out for a duck in the first game, it was expected that Rohit would look to get some runs in the second. Instead, he played a forgettable shot to the first ball he faced and was back warming the cold bench in the changing room”, Gavaskar added.

Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had a decent outing in the recently concluded T20I series against Afghanistan.

Kohli scored a 16-ball 29 and a golden duck in the last two T20Is he played. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma made a stunning comeback after two back-to-back ducks, smashing record 5th T20I century in the third T20I.
