Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube on Thursday gave a good account of himself in the IND vs AFG 1st T20I. Dube is one of the players that have not quite booked a spot in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup in June. However, Dub does remain firmly in the thoughts of Indian selectors ahead of the mega event. It was evident when Dube was picked for the IND vs AFG T20I series. And Dube did not disappoint. After a decent outing with the ball where he conceded just 9 runs in two overs and took a wicket, Dube proved handy with the bat too, playing a sensible innings of while chasing a low target.
India only have these three T20Is before playing the World Cup in the US in the middle of the year, meaning there are limited opportunities for players looking for a spot in the WC squad. Dube must have been aware of the fact, as he hardly put a wrong in the match.
Coming in to bowl in the 9th over, Dube picked up the wicket of dangerous-looking Ibrahim Zadran. He hardly gave away any loose balls, as is evident from his economy rate.
He bettered his display in the batting department, scoring a half-century while chasing a low total of 159. He smashed five 4s and two 6s in the innings. The most impressive thing about his innings was his sensible display. Dube played proper cricketing shots, putting away the bad balls. He avoided risky shots but kept the runs flowing.
Although it would be tall task for Dube to get into the Indian squad for the WC ahead of the more experienced Hardik Pandya, he certainly made the choice of selectors harder with his mature display.
