IND vs AFG: Sanju Samson squanders perfect opportunity to strengthen selection in India squad

Sanju Samson misses fifty in Ranji trophy to miss golden chance to strengthen case for IND vs AFG squad selection

With the IND vs AFG T20I squad announcement pending, Sanju Samson missed out on a golden opportunity to strengthen his case for the India squad selection. The captain of the Kerala team failed to register a fifty in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh. The dependable batter managed just 35 runs, failing to strengthen his selection case for the BCCI Selection Committee.

The India Cricket Team is slated to announce their squad for the upcoming IND vs AFG series soon. But the Men in Blue are expected to miss the likes of some key players like Hardik Pandya and Surykumar Yadav owing to injury. Ruturaj Gaikwad is also injured ahead of the series.

This works wonders for Sanju Samson who was snubbed for the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. He was further dropped from the 5 match T20I series against Australia but featured in the 3 match ODI series vs the Proteas. In the final game, he roared back to form by hammering a stunning century.

As for the India, the Men in blue are slated to play their final 3 T20I matches before the T20 World Cup. With key middle order batters missing, Sanju Samson is likely to make the cut. But a strong outing in the Ranji Trophy would have further strengthened this case.

Samson began his knock with a blistering sixer. He hammered 5 fours to score a quick firing 35 from 46 balls, but unfortunately failed to register his fifty.
