India Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid has squashed all rumours of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening the innings in the IND vs AFG 1st T20I. In fact Rahul Dravid has clarified that the team has no such plans to do so. Yashasvi Jaiswal will open proceedings for India which will further give the left-right handed combo in the opening pair.
Recent media reports suggested that there is a possibility of Rohit opening with Kohli in the T20Is. But that is not supposed to be the case as Dravid clarifies.
“No, we have not decided anything on that. Yashasvi is expected to open with Rohit. It also gives us the chance to play right-hand, left-hand combo,” said Rahul Dravid at the pre match Press Conference.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returns to the T20I setup after a long absence of 14 months. While the duo have their slots fixed in the team, there were rumours of the dynamic stars opening the innings together in the IND vs AFG series.
The young southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal has been good in the shortest format of the game. He will open the proceedings with skipper Rohit Sharma. On the other hand, Shubman Gill is also a viable option to open, but it is expected that the baby GOAT will bat at number 3.
Gill will slot in at Number 3 as Virat Kohli will miss the IND vs AFG 1st T20I due to personal reasons.
