Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday threw a googly at Afghanistan even before a ball was bowled in the IND vs AFG T20I series. After Rahul Dravid confirmed youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma would open the innings for India, Rohit after the toss said Yashasvi has been kept out of the first XI for the series opener. However, it later emerged that Yashasvi’s exclusion was not because of tactical reasons, but a forced one.

The BCCI, in an X (previously Twitter) post provided the reason for Yashasvi’s absence. The BCCI said Yashasvi Jaiswal was unavailable for selection for the first T20I due to a sore right groin.
Dravid, in the pre-match press conference before the match, was asked about India’s opening pair. Dravid had said, “Yashasvi is expected to open with Rohit. It also gives us the chance to play right-hand, left-hand combo,” Dravid had said.
However, it now looks like Shubman Gill will open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s absence.
