India U19 captain Uday Saharan on Sunday said he was proud of his team despite the loss to Australia in the IND U19 vs AUS19 World Cup final. India were the second best team in the day as Australia capitalised on the Indian mistakes to bring home their 4th U19 World Cup title.
Saharan, who has been the highest run scorer in the tournament. The batter scored 397 runs in seven matches. However, he could not replicate his form in the final as the batter got out for 8 runs of 18 balls while chasing the target 254 in the final.
Saharan in the post-match ceremony said the Indian batters faltered in execution in the final, leading to the defeat.
“Very proud of the boys, they played really well. Everybody contributed towards the performances and I’m very glad with the way the boys have performed,” Saharan said.
When asked about what went wrong for India in the final, Saharan said, “The preparations were good, but the execution didn’t go our way. Some of the boys played some rash shots. I think if we could have spent some more times on the pitch, it could have been better.”
Saharan also added that the tournament served as a huge learning curve for the team.
“We have learnt a lot from this tournament and I think as we move ahead we’ll take these learnings and try and get better with our performances and as individuals as well,” Saharan said.
