IND ENG Test Series – Big allegation on ECB: Salman Butt says, ‘they only want insurance money, they don’t care about series or WTC points’ Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes England Cricket Board (ECB) aren’t worried about missing World Test Championship points or levelling the series but the dispute is only because they aim to claim insurance money. ECB has declared that they will lose up to £30million (304 Crore) and according to Butt, just to recover monies via insurance cover is what England board’s goal is.

IND ENG Test Series – Big allegation on ECB: The fifth Test between India and England Manchester was called off after an outbreak of positive cases in the Indian backroom staff, which eventually led to the match being suspended. Some of the Indian players were reluctant to take field due to the risk of COVID-19, while former English cricketers have claimed that the IPL, which starts on September 19 has been given more importance.

IND vs ENG 5th Test cancelled: Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt said ECB is more worried about the financial losses from the cancellation of the fifth Test.

Butt said, “I feel they (ECB) are more worried about the £30m loss. They only want the insurance claim, and haven’t even talked about the match [in the request]. They (ECB) have only said that if you (the ICC) write this (that the match was forfeited), we’ll recover the money from insurance. They aren’t saying something like, ‘For the sake of God, please play the match, the points are very important, we don’t want to lose the series but equalize it at 2-2’. They haven’t written anything like it.”

Earlier, Insidesport.co had reported that ECB stands to lose almost £30million (304 Crore) in broadcasting revenue and gate receipts from the full-houses expected at Old Trafford’s 21,500 capacity ground. During their discussions, ECB told BCCI during one of the conversations that they would be liable for these losses.

IND ENG Test Series – Big allegation on ECB: Both boards are at loggerheads and England Cricket Board CEO Tom Harrison wanted ICC intervention, saying that BCCI’s proposed rescheduled Test next year might be treated as a one-off Test. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly confirmed that if the cancelled Test does take place in India’s next tour to England in 2022, then it will be the fifth Test of this series and not a standalone affair.
