Riding on his man of the match performance, India won the 2nd ODI by 44 runs in Ahmedabad and sealed the series 2-0.

“I have never seen a spell like that in India for a long time now. Prasidh bowled with a lot of pace and kept it going. The others complimented him,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation after 2nd ODI.

The young Karnataka pacer did not start with the new ball. Instead, was introduced in the eighth over and made an instant impact, sending Brandon King back with extra bounce. In the next over, he beat Brandon King with extra bounce and the figures read 2/3 after two overs.

He was reintroduced in the 20th over with Nicholas Pooran aiming to go big. But Prasidh Krishna was at his best. This time, he used the pace well and Pooran edged it to Rohit Sharma at slip. The fourth wicket was of Kemar Roach with a full-length pacey delivery that skidded off the surface and gave the West Indies batter no chance. “I have been striving hard to do this for a long time. So, I am very happy that we won. I was still looking to hit the good areas. When I came in to bat, I knew it was still seaming. I would have laughed it off (If someone would have told him he would finish with the figures he ended with today). I had seen the wicket in the last game. Experimenting wasn’t possible as there was not much to defend. So, I stuck to good lines. I want to be as consistent as possible,” Prasidh Krishna said after the Man of the Match performance.

IND beat WI: Shikhar Dhawan to come back

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will be back for the third and final ODI. Before the series started, Shikhar Dhawan along with Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Navdeep Saini tested positive for COVID-19.

“Surya had to take his time and understand what the team wants from him. KL also batted superbly as he is consistently up and down in the order. I have been asked to try something different. We wanted to try it one game. Shikhar should be back for the next game,” said Rohit.

With a 44-run victory in Ahmedabad, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. It was also India’s 11th consecutive series win against West Indies. In fact, the team hasn’t won an ODI series against India in over 20 overs.

“Obviously winning the series is a good feeling. There were some challenges. The partnership between Rahul and Surya had a lot of maturity. We got to a respectable total in the end. We knew we could fight it out. The entire unit came out and bowled superbly. It is important for these guys to bat under pressure and that is how you will judge their character,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul might have played knocks of 64 and 49 but the hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, and in the end, West Indies restricted India to 237/9 in the allotted fifty overs. For the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith scalped two wickets each.

“We don’t mind losing a few games trying out a few things. Because it is important to look at the long-term goals. We will see what works out well for the team combination. I was a little surprised to see no dew. When you have five bowlers and Deepak being sixth, you always need to keep rotating the bowlers,” Rohit Sharma added.
