World’s best fielding side drops two easy catches- T20 World Cup finalists New Zealand fell short yet again as they conceded a series lead to India in the first game of their three-match series. The Men in Blue sealed a thrilling chase in the final over, with Rishabh pant keeping his cool to hit the winning runs in what was a tricky situation. New Zealand pride themselves in being one of the finest fielding sides in the world, but the Kiwis were particularly sloppy which eventually led to their defeat on Wednesday. Defending 164 on a Jaipur track aiding the team batting second, the visitors needed to be at their very best to sneak out a win.

However, unfortunately for Tim Southee and Co, the team slacked and put down two big chances, which eventually cost them the game. Martin Guptill dropped KL Rahul early in the game, and while the Indian vice-captain did not do much damage, he was a key aide as he stitched a 50-run stand with Rohit Sharma in the first five overs.

Trent Boult later dropped a sitter, giving Suryakumar Yadav a reprieve in a tense situation. The left-arm pacer’s dropped catch went to the boundary, giving India some much-needed runs. While Surya did not add much to his tally, later on, the boundary conceded eventually proved to be crucial, especially with India chasing the score down in the final over of the innings.

India captain Rohit Sharma (48) led from the front in their chase as they took a 1-0 lead against the Kiwis. Suryakumar Yadav (62) impressed after the early departure of KL Rahul as New Zealand bowlers looked clueless. While Rohit Sharma slammed 48 runs off just 36 balls, Suryakumar Yadav smacked a 40-ball 62. Earlier in the day, Ravichandran Ashwin finished with a spell of 2/23 to help restrict the Kiwis to just 164 in their 20 overs in Jaipur.
