IND BAN 2nd ODI: India Playing XI 2nd ODI: India Practice Dhaka: Rohit Sharma spent some time assessing the Dhaka pitch on Tuesday before the 2nd ODI. But he did not like what he saw. The pitch will likely turn more with spinners dominating proceedings like it did in the 1st ODI. With that, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey spent time chatting with Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel. The slow nature of the pitch means Rohit is likely to play three spinners, sacrificing one pacer. Follow IND vs BAN LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The good news is that Axar Patel is back and is available for selection. He sat out of the 1st ODI after hurting his ribs during practice. He had a go in the nets with Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed all likely to play together.

Shakib Al Hasan showed the way on how to bowl on Dhaka pitches. His five-wicket haul bowled India out for only 186. Historically, left-arm spinners have been very successful in Bangladesh. Rahul Dravid knows it. Hence, playing both Axar Patel and Shahbaz Ahmed could be the plan. Washington Sundar can be the 3rd spinner.

India Practice Dhaka Highlights:

  • Umran Malik joined the practice session and spent time discussing with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
  • Although Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar both turned out for practice, he is still in contention for a spot.
  • Even though Shikhar Dhawan confirmed that Shardul is all okay, the team management may not risk him.
  • Instead, Umran can play in place of Shardul.
  • Spinners will once again have a big role to play. Mhambrey held discussions with Axar Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar.
  • India may opt to go with three spinners including two left-arm spinners. Shakib Al Hasan showed the way with five-wicket haul.
  • Meanwhile, to tackle Shakib and Bangladesh spinners, India turned to sweep shots.
  • Rahul Dravid had a special session with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer on sweep shots.

Shikhar Dhawan also emphasised on playing sweeps to counter Bangladeshi spin attack in the ODI series.

“I enjoy playing sweep and reverse sweep, so good to practice more of that. On these types of wickets, sweep and reverse sweep are very effective, you will see more of it from our batters tomorrow. Even the World Cup next year is in India, spinners play a major role on Indian pitches, so sweep and reverse sweep will come handy. It is part of the preparation for the World Cup,” Dhawan said.
