IND vs BAN 1st Test – Cheteshwar Pujara TEST Record: A brand new test series is about to begin. This means it will also bring a fresh opportunity for India’s Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara. Team India’s No. 3 has been under some pressure for a very long time due to a lack of runs, strike rotation, and fitness issues. Pujara is under some pressure, and head coach Rahul Dravid knows that. Maybe for this reason, during India’s optional net session, Rahul Dravid was seen spending maximum time with Cheteshwar Pujara ahead of the IND vs. BAN 1st Test. Cheteshwar Pujara’s form has a biggest worry for team India

The cricketer from Saurashtra considered to be the heir to current India coach Rahul Dravid made his India debut back in 2010. He scored tons of runs during the initial phase of his Test career. However post the 2019 series against Australia, Pujara has struggled to score centuries. Pujara’s last century came against Australia in 2019. He had scored 193 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground helping India to a famous win.

Post the hundred in 2019, Pujara has struggled to reach the three-digit mark. He did play a couple of heroic knocks during India’s famous series win over Australia during the 2020-21 tour down under. Following the Australia series, Pujara found himself benched due to lack of runs.

Pujara started the year with string of poor scores against South Africa. He had registered scored 0, 16, 3, 53, 43, and 9. Poor performance during South Africa tour led to Pujara being dropped for the test series against Sri Lanka.    The 34-year-old recently featured in India A’s second unofficial Test against Bangladesh A. He went onto score half century and will look to carry on the confidence into the two match series.

It’s make or break time for Cheteshwar Pujara

The upcoming two match series against Bangladesh will be a make or break series for Pujara. Ajinkya Rahane who was once a mainstay in  India’s test team is now grinding on the domestic circuit. The middle order batter has been unable to break this way through with new faces knocking the door.  This year  Pujara has only played 3 Test matches in which he has scored 187 runs at an average of 31.16.

Abhimanyu Easwaran has made his way into Team India test set up as cover for Rohit Sharma. The Bengal skipper has not only scored runs on domestic circuit but has been impressive for India A as well. There have been calls for inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav in the test setup as well. The age factor also comes into play as Pujara is not getting any younger. With Easwaran and Suryakumar breathing down the neck Pujara needs to be back at his best or could say goodbye to dream of playing for India in future as well.

It is an important series for Team India, with their hopes of a WTC final appearance hanging in the balance. India need to win all of their remaining six games to stand a chance to play the summit clash at the Oval. After the ODI series loss, the Men in Blue cannot afford any more slip-ups on this tour.
