Pat Cummins and co. got their first look at a dry, worn-looking Arun Jaitley Stadium surface as they began preparations for the 2nd Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Starc and Green trained strongly in the Indian capital on Wednesday. The former looked close to full fitness, steaming in the nets and bowling at full tilt. While Green batted for a long time, he looked in discomfort and winced multiple times as he continues to recover from a finger injury.
The wicket at Delhi appears drier than what they got in the first Test. India prepare to throw Australia off guard with a rank turner after their spinners dominated the visiting batters in Nagpur. Australia vice-captain Steve Smith spent a lot of time studying the pitch. His form will be key should Australia aim to level the series.
Smith had a lengthy discussion with the ground staff, with Australia head coach Andrew McDonald for the company. David Warner also spent some time inspecting the surface. Incidentally, Warner will return to the ground later this year, when he returns for the IPL with Delhi Capitals.
