The 1st test match started on February 9 and ended on the third day, Saturday, February 11, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Indian bowlers bowled out Australia for 177 runs, in their first inning, where Ravindra Jadeja scalped 5 wickets. India smashed 400 runs in the first inning and took the lead of 223 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored splendid 120 runs. On the third day, Australia was again bowled out on 91 runs. Ashwin took 5 wickets and India won the match by an inning and 132 runs.
