It has to be said that New Zealand A started their chase quite well. Alongside Cleaver, Chad Bowes looked well against the Indian seamers. They completed their 50-run opening wicket partnership. But then, Rahul Chahar scalped the first wicket for India A, sending back Bowes and Rachin Ravindra in succession.

After being reduced to 56/2, they never really got into the game. The visitors lost wickets at regular intervals as they were 102/4. No one really showed much support to Cleaver, who was just watching his fellow batters lose wicket one after the other.

And when Rishi Dhawan send back Cleaver, India A had the game in the bag. Bawa did not have any trouble in removing the last two batters as they were all out for 178.

Earlier, the Indian A team need to thank Shardul Thakur, who played a brilliant innings of 50 runs. It played an important role in helping them end up with 284, else the score could have been much less. He scored a 33-ball 51, which comprised of four fours and three sixes.

If Shardul finished off India’s innings, the platform was set by the top order, including AR Easwaran. He scored 39 runs. But the major contribution was done by Sanju Samson and Tilak Verma with both the India A batters scoring half-centuries.

After the dismissal of Varma and Samson, Rishi Dhawan hit a fine 34. But at the end, it was Shardul’s innings, which helped India build a momentum. It was carried forward in the second innings as well.
