India A had a solid pacer battery, which included Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Sen and Umran Malik. The first two bowlers were spot on. After the dismissal of Chad Bowes by Thakur, India A took wickets in regular intervals.

For less than 30 runs on the board, the visitors had lost half of their players. They were 27/5 with Kuldeep scalping three. They were soon 74/8 as well, and there were concerns if New Zealand A would bring up even 100 runs on the board.

It is at that juncture that Michael Rippon and Joe Walker decided to shoulder responsibility. The lower order batting were the most comfortable compared to the rest of the top order players. It was their 89-run partnership, which allowed them to have some sort of a score on the board. Rippon was eventually run out by Patidar, and they were later bowled out for 167.

Such kind of a score was not going to the test the strong India A batting order. Though Prithvi Shaw lost his wicket early, Ruturaj Gaikwad looked good and took control of the situation with 41 runs. Rahul Tripathi contributed with 31,

However, an unbeaten partnership between Samson (29) and Patidar saw their team through in the 32nd over. Patidar hit seven fours while Samson slammed one four and three sixes.
