Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has lauded Suryakumar Yadav after latter’s stunning century in IND vs SA 3rd T20I in Johannesburg on Thursday, December 14.
Speaking to Star Sports during mid-innings break, Steyn said that the India’s stand-in T20I skipper is ‘incredibly difficult batter to bowl to’ in the T20 format.
“We just witnessed a superb innings. SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) decided if you want to hit the ball on the off side, he hit the ball on the off side. If you want to hit it for six, on the leg side, you hit it to six on the leg side. He’s incredibly difficult to bowl to. Because you don’t know where he’s going to hit you”, Steyn said.

When asked what different the South African bowlers could have tried, Steyn said, “There wasn’t enough short ball deliveries today. When you’ve got a bowler who is bowling close to 150 kilometers an hour, you think you have to at least try short balls if everything else is failing. At least you’ve got to try and get the ball round that head high. The ball might still go for a boundary, it might go for six or four but the next delivery could get you a wicket. You could lose the batter’s feet”.
Suryakumar scored a 55-ball century to power India to 201 for 7 in series decider. Yadav’s 100-run knock included 7 fours and 8 sixes as he joined the likes of Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell for scoring most centuries in T20Is.
Notably, the visitors are trailing 0-1 in the three-match series after suffering a loss in the 2nd T20I.
