Pakistan cricket team’s bowling coach and former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel stepped down from his position on Monday, as per a release issued by the PCB. The lanky pacer had joined Pakistan on a six-month contract back in June 2023, with his first assignment coming in an away Test series against Sri Lanka.
Although his replacement is yet to be announced, the PCB has assured that they will come up with a bowling coach soon. Meanwhile, the Pakistan cricket team’s next assignment is a three-match away Test series against Australia which starts on December 14.
Umar Gul Likely to Take Over as Bowling Coach for Pakistan Cricket Team
After the World Cup debacle in India, where Pakistan completely looked out of sorts and bowling also looked toothless, their former pacer Umar Gul is likely to take over the reins. As per a report in Cricket Pakistan, a training camp for the Pakistan cricket team is likely to start from November 20, under the guidance of Umar Gul.
Pakistan Under Morne Morkel in World Cup 2023
Throughout the ICC World Cup 2023, the Pakistani bowlers struggled for form. The only notable performance came from Shaheen Shah Afridi, who picked up 18 wickets from nine matches. On the other hand, Haris Rauf, who picked 16 wickets in the tournament, leaked runs in every match, going for 533 runs overall. Hasan Ali was ordinary with nine wickets in six matches.
