MS Dhoni took over CSK captaincy from Ruturaj Gaikwad, but that had zero effect on the performance of the batters, vs KKR in Chennai, as the team slumped to one of the worst powerplays in IPL 2025. The team just managed 31/2 in six overs, that summed up their poor batting show.
Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra Fail for CSK
It all started with opener Devon Conway taking all the time in the world to get going. He could only score 12 from 10 before getting out to Moeen Ali, while attempting a reverse sweep. Then it was the turn of his Kiwi opening partner Rachin Ravindra, who came up with another pathetic innings; got out for 4 from 9.
It is important to note that Vijay Shankar did come up with two boundaries in the sixth over, otherwise this may well have been Chennai’s worst powerplay this year, which for now stands at 30/3 by the same team, against RCB. Things could have further gone downhill for the CSK team, had they not dropped Vijay Shankar twice in a space of three overs.
MS Dhoni’s Team Endures Another Poor Powerplay
Such was their struggle, that Moeen Ali came up with a wicket-maiden too, which is a rare, rare occurrence in T20s. Meanwhile coming back to the worst powerplays in the IPL 2025, RCB had come up with 38/3 vs GT, while LSG had come up with 39/3 in the match vs PBKS.
Earlier, the team management had included Rahul Tripathi in their playing XI, after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the rest of the tournament. In the three matches prior to this, he had only scored 30 runs in three matches.
