The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) captains meet is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on March 20, two days before the start of the new IPL 2025 season. Apart from this customary all-captain photoshoot, there will be discussions on major rule changes.
No Impact Player rule at IPL 2025?
However, one particular rule that was discussed is the Impact Player rule. Well, according to reports, the substitute rule could have been obliterated. While the BCCI announced that the IP rule will continue in the ongoing IPL cycle (i.e., 2025 to 2027), there was a possibility that it would be pulled out at the last minute. Apart from this, quite a few rules and regulations were also slated to be discussed at the meeting.
Important update: Well, according to TOI reporter, the Impact player rule will continue for IPL 2025 as expected. It was fascinating for the BCCI to discuss the Impact Substitute rule this late going into a fresh IPL season. Teams strategised their squads according to the rule and it would have been unprecedented had the rule was removed.
