ILT20 follows IPL’s Impact Player rule, introduces Super Sub for ILT20 2024

ILT20 follows IPL’s Impact Player rule, introduces Super Sub for ILT20 2024

Following success of Impact Sub in of IPL, UAE's International League T20 will introduce Super Sub from ILT20 2024.

International League T20 will have its own Impact Player rule like Indian Premier League (IPL), albeit in a different name. From ILT20 2024 onwards, the UAE-based franchise T20 league will introduce Super Sub. The only difference it has from IPL is that, to use Super Sub, a team has to name at least two players from the UAE in the Playing XI.

In IPL 2023, BCCI introduced an Impact player, who can replace a player to add an extra dimension to the match. After a successful trial run in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Impact Player did earn plaudits from some corners although not everyone was happy with it as it diminished the importance of having an all-rounder.

ILT20 2024: How would Super Sub work?

However, back in ILT20, Super Sub will follow a similar path to the Impact Player rule.

  • A Super Sub has to be named after the toss from the match day roster consisting of 18 players.
  • A maximum of seven players can be named alongside Playing XI in the match-day roster.
  • Once the Super Sub comes on, the replaced player cannot take part in the match anymore.
  • Like IPL, Super Sub can be introduced at any point after the first over of the match or at the start of the second innings.
  • However, a team can only utilise a Super Sub player if there are at least two players from the UAE in the Playing XI.

When a Super Sub can be introduced?

As per the new playing conditions in ILT20, the batting side can introduce Super Sub after the first over or fall of a wicket. They can also introduce the Super Sub if the batter retires hurt or retires out. However, if a Super Sub replaces a retired hurt player, he will be deemed out.

For the bowling side, they can introduce Super Sub after the fall of a wicket. However, the Super Sub cannot complete an over for the player he is replacing. But he can complete a four-over quota.

ILT20 2024 will begin on January 13 with the final on Feb 17. For the first time, ILT20 matches will have ICC’s List A status.
