‘Fit’ Ishant Sharma ruled out of the DC vs SRH match 5 minutes before the toss

Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first in the DC vs SRH.

Is Ishant Sharma fit or not? The veteran fast bowler, who’d claimed that he regained his fitness moments before the DC vs SRH match, wasn’t included in the playing XI. Ishant, who hasn’t been at his finest in the IPL 2024 season, apparently suffered a back spasm moments before the match and therefore won’t be taking the field.

After winning the toss, Rishabh Pant opted to bowl first and revealed the changes they had made. He said, “Instead of Sumit (Kumar), Lalit (Yadav) comes in. Instead of Ishant (Sharma), who had a back spasm just 5 minutes back, Nortje comes in.”

I’m feeling good: Ishant Sharma

Minutes before the toss, Sharma revealed being fit, despite injuring his ankle a few days ago. He’d said:

“I’m feeling good; we played two home matches in Vizag; the pitch there was slow and flat; we’ll have to look at the pitch here and then adapt to the conditions. I have to be thankful to Patrick (Farhart, the DC physio), the day I twisted my ankle, myself and him stayed up the entire night as icing had to be applied. Even now, I have to take 3 pills a day so that I don’t feel the pain during practice or in the match.”

Delhi Capitals Playing XI

David Warner, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel. Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar.

Impact Subs: Prithvi Shaw, Shai Hope, Praveen Dubey, Rasikh Dar Salam
