Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah has announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a day after the PSL 2025 draft. For the uninformed, Ihsanullah wasn’t picked up by any of the five franchises in Lahore. Struggling with injuries for the last couple of years, the right-arm fast bowler wasn’t playing much and missed the PSL 2024 season.
Ihsanullah retires from PSL
Miffed over his non-selection, Ihsanullah announced that he’s boycotting and retiring from PSL. He wishes to continue playing for the Pakistan cricket team. “Main boycott karta hoon, retirement leta hoon PSL se (I’m boycotting the PSL and retiring from it). Main zindagi mein kisi ko bhi nazar nahi aaunga PSL mein (I’ll never be seen playing in the PSL again),” an angry Ihsanullah said.
The main reason why Ihsanullah was miffed was because of a botched elbow injury. Undergone surgery after a suggestion from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it went so badly that the pacer was out for months. It had gone so bad that Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen claimed that he needed another surgery to get back.
It turned out that wasn’t the case either. The surgery was done so poorly that even after another one, doctors claimed that Ihsanullah’s elbow was so bad that his arm would never straighten. His actions and perhaps his ability would never be the same either.
In the aftermath, PCB’s chief medical officer Dr Sohail Saleem was fired for mishandling his injury but Insanullah’s career has already suffered.
