Pakistan’s wicketkeeper batter Muhammad Rizwan received flak on social media after he dedicated Pakistan’s victory against Sri Lanka on Tuesday to the people of Gaza, during the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas terrorists.

Rizwan took to Twitter and said this win was for his brothers and sisters in Gaza and he is happy to contribute in Pakistan’s win.

However, his tweet didn’t go down well with Indian cricket fans who demanded the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take action against the Pakistan batter for making a political comment.

Fans reminded ICC that then Indian captain MS Dhoni was asked to remove an army insignia from his wicketkeeping gloves, stating that the Indian team had not sought any permission to sport the badge.

Check out some reactions:

Notably, ICC have strictly stated that cricketers are prohibited from making political and religious statements during ICC events.

However, it is important to note that Rizwan made the comments off the field on his personal social media account and not during the match. It is highly unlikely that the 31-year-old will face any action from the governing body.

Muhammad Rizwan played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 131 to help Pakistan chase down a record 346 in PAK vs SL World Cup match. The Men in Green will now face Team India at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
