“If Babar Azam reduces..” – Sunil Gavaskar offers simple solution to end Pakistan batter’s struggles

Babar Azam has been in poor form in the last few month, and that has affected Pakistan's performance in Champions Trophy too.

Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been poor, to say the least, in the last couple of years. He has failed across formats, and his last ODI ton was against Nepal in August 2023. In the ongoing Champions Trophy, he was dismissed for 23 against India, which has brought widespread criticism for him. In fact, in the 9 ODIs vs India, he averages only 30, getting 50 only once.

Babar Azam’s Poor Form Continues in Champions Trophy

Given his poor form, the Pakistani team was also ousted of the tournament, after losing by six wickets against India. But ex-India opener Sunil Gavaskar has come to the rescue of the struggling batsman. Speaking with Basit Ali on his Youtube channel, the legendary Gavaskar pointed out the fault in Babar Azam’s technique, and also provided the remedy for it.

“If you ask me about technique, I’ll just say one thing to Babar Azam. Right now, his stance is wide,” Gavaskar said. “If he reduces the width between his legs (while standing at the crease) then he will get two advantages – He won’t be uncomfortable moving front or back.

Sunil Gavaskar Has a Solution

“Secondly, when you close the gap, your height increases. You have a better understanding of the bounce, you are more upright and you can tackle the ball better. If he tries to do that, the run-making ability that he had will come back. If he does that, it will not only provide joy to the people of Pakistan but also the entire world.”

Gavaskar went on to add, that when in full flow Babar is a treat to watch. “He gives a lot of joy with his cover drive. Even against India, look at the flick shot he hit for a boundary through mid-wicket, what a shot that was. The entire world wants to watch such shots,” Gavaskar added.
