ICC’s delay continue, yet to publish pitch ratings of New York for T20 World Cup

7.5 weeks passed, ICC continues to delay providing ratings of Nassau County Cricket Stadium after T20 World Cup debacle.

It has been over 1.5 months since the ICC T20 World Cup final took place in Barbados. Even so the USA leg of the tournament finished much earlier. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to release the official ratings of the pitches in New York and other USA stadiums. This comes after the pitch in New York faced huge criticism for it’s unpredictable bounce and excessive slow conditions.

Almost 8 weeks have passed, yet the apex cricket governing body of the world is yet to publish their reports on the pitches and ground conditions. A total of 8 matches were held at the Nassau County ground. The drop in pitches from Australia were installed at the Eisenhower Park Cricket Stadium.

ICC Continues to delay giving Rating for New York Pitch

Amidst uneven pace and bounce, the average first innings score in New York was a paltry 107.6 runs. The biggest clash that took place in the stadium was when arch rivals India took on Pakistan in a low scoring thrilling encounter. Contrary, the pitches in West Indies were much better.

As per the ICC, the last time the pitch ratings were updated was back in 31st May 2024 for both men’s and women’s matches. Questions have been raised as after the ODI World Cup in India, the ratings were posted within a span of a week. But now that around 47 days have elapsed, there has been no update from the ICC about the pitch ratings of USA.

A main reason for the delay could be ICC’s bid to give New York an average rating. Very good, good, satisfactory, average, and below average are the five options that ICC has to demark a pitch. But with the next edition of Olympics, i.e LA28 featuring cricket, it is highly unlikely that the ICC would give poor ratings.
