UAE on standby to host Women’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh seek more time

As per reports, the ICC is bound to ask the UAE to host the Women's T20 World Cup after India has declined amid unrest in Bangladesh

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering UAE as the next alternative to host the Women’s T20 World Cup. This move comes after India denied ICC’s request to host the event amid Bangladesh’s crisis-hit situation. Bangladesh, who are scheduled to host the tournament between October 3-20, have sought more time to respond to the ICC, as per report.

Bangladesh to lose Women’s T20 World Cup rights?

As per Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested five days time to respond to the body. An online meeting of the directors is scheduled to be held on August 20 when the decision on the Women’s T20 World Cup is reportedly to be made. This will also coincide with the five-day request made by the BCB if granted.

The BCB has so far maintained that it has reached out to the interim government seeking security assurances to host the marquee event. They have been adamant on retaining the hosting rights for the World Cup which is scheduled to take place in October. The country is also planning to reach out to the UN to help them in their cause.

Meanwhile, India has refused ICC’s request to host the T20 World Cup. The other alternatives the ICC has is Sri Lanka and UAE. It remains to be seen what situation unfolds in Bangladesh and if they can race against time to have arrangements in place to host the event.
