ICC Test Rankings: International Cricket Council has made a big blunder. ICC website glitch had put India as World No 1 in Tests momentarily, taking away Australia’s gains. Instead of Australia’s 126 points, ICC gave Rohit Sharma & Co 115 rating points, making them the new World No 1. Australia only had 111 instead of 126. But ICC has now corrected the website and Australia are back as the World No 1. Instead, India will only become new World No 1 if they beat Australia at home in the Test series. This is how the glitched out ICC website looked.

India have regained their spot at the top of the pile in updated ICC Test Rankings. The Men in Blue have taken a four point lead over Australia. That comes on the back of India’s 2-0 Test series win in Bangladesh.

Despite that, India are yet to confirm their place in the World Test Championship finals. Australia have already confirmed their berth.

India are currently 2nd behind leaders Australia. In a showdown between the two best Test teams in the World, India have a chance to reclaim the World No 1 spot.

India will face Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 next month with the first Test beginning on Feb 9 in Nagpur. The remaining three Tests of the series will be played in Delhi (Feb 17-21), Dharamsala (March 1-5), and Ahmedabad (March 9-13).

ICC Test Rankings: How can India reach World No 1 in Tests?

  • Australia are placed at the number one place in ICC Test rankings with 126 rating points.
  • India are placed second in the table with 115 and have a great chance to take the first spot.
  • If India defeat Australia by 2-0 or 3-1, then they can topple Australia and become No 1 in ICC Test Rankings.
  • A 1-1 or even a 1-0 win for India won’t be enough to surpass Australia.
  • India also have the opportunity to seal their spot for the final match at World Test Championship.
