Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and fiery opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have stormed into the top ten of ICC rankings for Test batters. While the southpaw was the highest run-scorer of the IND vs ENG series, the Indian skipper let the bat do the talking, scoring a century as well.
Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal move up on Test rankings after IND vs ENG show
Rohit has moved up by five spots to settle for the 6th position. Jaiswal, on the other hand, has moved up by two spots, sitting on the 8th position. Shubman Gill, who found his touch in the last three games, has moved up 11 spots to settle at a career-best of 20th rank.
Rohit Sharma silences critics
Rohit Sharma’s rise in the rankings is a fitting reply to former cricketers who wrote the Indian skipper off after the 1st Test. Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott slammed India skipper, saying he is “past his prime” for his twin failure after the 1st Test.
“India badly missed Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja has a hamstring injury and will not play the second Test. Their captain Rohit Sharma is nearly 37 and past his best. He makes pretty cameos but has scored only two Test hundreds at home in four years,” Boycott had said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was on fire with the bat and scored over 700 runs in the series, including back-to-back double hundreds in the second and third Test.
