ICC T20 World Cup dream not over for Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal after IPL 2024 heroics

ICC T20 World Cup dream continues, Selectors keeping close eye on Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal after excellent IPL 2024 stint

The World Cup dream is not yet over for Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals duo has lighted up IPL 2024 with their incredible performances. Though they are not the prime contenders for a spot in India Playing XI for ICC T20 World Cup, but there is a chance of their selection.

Sanju Samson faces a huge fight for the coveted keeper’s spot in Team India. Rishabh Pant’s selection in the team after his comeback is more or less confirmed. Others in the contention includes the likes of Jitesh Sharma, Dhruv Jurel and others. As for Chahal, his excellent performances in IPL can see a callup.

“Chahal and Samson are never out in T20 cricket. Everyone knows their value in this format. Selectors are definitely keeping a close tab on them. Most of the time, they have lost out to another player based on conditions and recent performances,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

ICC T20 World Cup Dream Not Over

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been brilliant with the bat. In his last 5 games, he has piled up 246 runs in 5 innings. This sees him 4th in the list of Most Runs Scored in IPL 2024. Interestingly, Samson, unlike his previous stints is not batting in the middle order.

In fact Sanju Samson is batting in the top order and has been excellent. While India’s top order is secured. Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli are fixed for the spot. Should Samson make it to the 11, he will have to bat at his original middle order and don the role of a finisher.

Yuzvendra Chahal last featured for India in the India Tour of West Indies before Asia Cup 2023. Following which he was snubbed for Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. But the veteran spinner wove his magic in IPL 2024. Chahal is now joint first in Most Wickets Taken, 10 from 5 games, paired with Jasprit Bumrah.

Now, such performances in IPL cannot be overlooked. In fact the selectors are keeping a close eye on the RR duo. Should they go on to perform in a similar fashion, they are highly likely to make the cut.
