ICC T20 World CUP – Cricket WestIndies UPSET: The two-time T20 World Champions West Indies has shockingly exited from the event even before the start of SUPER-12. The Caribbean team lost to the likes of Scotland & Ireland in Round 1. This has made the Cricket WestIndies President Ricky Skerritt very angry. Skerritt has blamed the batsmen, especially Nicholas Pooran for the failure. The buzz from the Caribbean media is that Pooran can be stripped of his captaincy: Follow T20 World Cup 2022 LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN
Skerritt cited his team’s batting as the reason why West Indies were routed so easily. “The going inability of our batsmen to prevail over opposing slow bowling continued to be an obvious weakness in Australia, and untimely shot selections seem to be deeply embedded in the T20 batting culture of our senior team,” he said.
He continued, “West Indies cricket is bigger than any one individual or event and continues to need the input and support of all stakeholders.”
The WestIndies captain could score only 25 RUNS in 3 matches @ average of 8.3.

WI vs IRE Highlights: Leg-spinner Gareth Delany recorded career-high figures of 3/16 in the match, and veteran opener Paul Stirling slammed an incredible 66 not out to lead Ireland to the Super 12 stage with a crucial nine-wicket victory over West Indies in a Group B match of the first round on Friday at Bellerive Oval.
Stirling came out firing in his unbeaten 48-ball innings, hitting six fours and two sixes, and chasing down the score with 15 balls left after Delany kept things tight and other bowlers chipped in to hold the West Indies to an under-par 146/5 in 20 overs, with Brandon King reaching an unbeaten 62.
“I am deeply disappointed with the performance results of our team in Australia and I appreciate the sense of utter frustration that is being experienced by many,” Skerritt said in a statement on Friday.

He did, however, assure everyone involved that the World Cup fiasco would be thoroughly investigated. “However, I want to assure stakeholders that a thorough post-mortem will be carried out on all aspects of our World Cup preparation and performance and that solutions will be found in keeping with CWI’s strategy to improve the quality and sustainability of cricket on all fronts, and in all formats,” Skerritt said.
