With the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, teams are already ramping up their preparations for the marquee event. In this context, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in discussions to finalize a three-match T20I series in October 2025, which will allow time for key preparatory exercise for both the Asian sides.
This proposed series comes after multiple postponements in recent years. Originally, Afghanistan were supposed to host Bangladesh for a full-fledged tour in July 2024, comprising two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested a rescheduling, citing workload management concerns. A subsequent proposal for a white-ball series in July-August at Greater Noida was also shelved due to concerns over extreme weather conditions.
A BCB official, closely involved in scheduling, confirmed to Cricbuzz that discussions with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have resumed, with an eye on locking in an early October window. “We have already started our discussion with Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) regarding the series that was postponed earlier and hope to discuss further after Ramadan. We are hoping to play three T20Is as part of our preparation for the T20 World Cup,” the official stated.
An ACB representative echoed similar sentiments, noting that the period between October 2-12 is being considered based on the Future Tours Programme (FTP). “If you look at the FTP, that will give you information that there has to be something (a window) in there, and we are having discussions to finalize the date and itinerary,” the ACB official said.
