The International Cricket Council (ICC) has received another blow as Dominica has pulled out of hosting matches for T20 World Cup 2024. It comes months after ICC announced hosting nations for the mega event in June. And to begin with the trouble, despite announcing New York as the venue for the India vs Pakistan (IND vs PAK) mega clash, there isn’t any stadium still now with just seven months left to go.
In September, ICC confirmed a total of 10 venues for T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean & the USA. Dominica was in talks to host India vs England match apart from a semifinal. However, with Dominica pulling out of the race, the matches will be divided into nine venues.
T20 World Cup 2024 venues
- Antigua & Barbuda
- Barbados
- Dominica (Pulled out)
- Guyana
- St Lucia
- Trinidad & Tobago
- St Vincent & The Grenadines
- Dallas
- Florida
- New York
IND vs PAK venue not ready
With seven months to go, there is still no venue for IND vs PAK match. While Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx was the original venue in New York, ICC and the local organising committee faced opposition from the locals. Hence, Eisenhower Park in Nassau County was chosen as the new venue.
However, there is no cricket stadium yet. With only seven months to go and a harsh winter around, USA will have to pull above their weight to deliver a venue in time.
As for the teams, as many as three African teams will be in the 20-team T20 World Cup. Uganda became the latest to make it to the mega event, eliminating Zimbabwe. Apart from South Africa, Namibia and Uganda will be two other teams.
