ICC sets August 29 as World Cup 2023 squad submission deadline

ICC has set the deadline for submission of the squad for the World Cup on 29th August 2023

The date is set, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has set the deadline on 29th August to submit the squads for the ICC World Cup. This means that all the participating teams now have just 2 months to fix and finalize their squad for the mega event. Things now have become tough for India who are yet to select their chief selector.

“The initial squad submission deadlines at our tournaments are 30 days before the support periods start. The support periods start one week before the tournaments. Changes may be made before the support period without seeking permission, but once the support period kicks in, the Event Technical Committee needs to approve replacements,” ICC informed InsideSport.

As per the ICC Draft schedule, the tournament is set to kick start from 5th October and therefore the teams will be have to submitted to the ICC 5 weeks prior to the start of the tournament. As per the ICC norms, the squad submission should be done a month before the support period commences. Now, the support period begins a week ahead of the tournament.

Therefore, the BCCI will have to submit the squad weeks and thus August 29th is the deadline that has been set by the ICC. The job is not easy for the BCCI and selectors. Once the chief selector joins, he and with his team will have to choose the perfect squad that can go and put up a strong performance in the tournament.

The World Cup schedule is set to be announced on 27th June in Mumbai. The WC Schedule will be out to mark 100 days to go for the mega event. The 50-over ODI WC begins 5th October.

Good news before World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah set to return for Ireland tour

As for the injury concerns of the Indian team, star speedster Jasprit Bumrah is set to return to action right before the World Cup. It is understood that Bumrah will take a part in the India Tour of Ireland as he continues to prepare for the mega event. Bumrah has missed action since last September.

Rishabh Pant has recovered well and it remains to be seen if he will be fit for the World Cup. On the other hand, KL Rahul who suffered a hamstring injury is gearing up for the Asia Cup. But Shreyas Iyer who had a back surgery is highly unlikely to attain 100% fitness for the Asia Cup.
