ICC Rankings: ICC Test Rankings: International Cricket Council (ICC) can’t hire a proper tech team. For a second time, the ICC has made a big blunder. India became World No 1 across all three formats for 4 hours, only for the ICC to accept the ranking gaffe and make the correction. As per ICC website, India claimed World No 1 rank in Test at 2:30 PM. However, by 7 PM, ICC made the change in ranking points. In what seemed unbelievable, Australia lost 15 ranking points to slip to World No 2 while India claimed the top spot. But ICC made the correction later to reflect Australia as World No 1 instead. However, the rectification is also incorrect. After losing the first Test by an innings and 132 runs, Australia will lose 4 points to be at 122. But the latest update puts Australia at top with 126. India will gain five ranking points to close the gap with 120 points. If Rohit Sharma & Co win in Delhi Test, they will certainly clinch the World No 1 rank.
India are already the No. 1 ranked in the shortest format. The Men in Blue then went on to wrap the top spot in the 50-over format with a series win against NZ. A 3-0 clean sweep against NewZealand was enough to make Rohit Sharma the top-ranked team in ODIs.

ICC Test Rankings: What exactly happened?
In what appears to be a glitch on the ICC website, ICC made India World No 1 in Test with 115 points. Australia slipped to 2nd with 111 points. But it was only a glitch.
The current Ranking update on the ICC website shows India at 2nd with 115 points while Australia are at top with 126 points. The gaffe also went unnoticed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah who tweeted in appreciation.
“What a phenomenal achievement! Congratulations to the Indian cricket team on becoming the #1 ranked team in all formats of the game. The hard work and dedication of the players and support staff have truly paid off,” Shah said.
However, despite eying history, Rohit Sharma made no fuss about it ahead of the Border Gavaskar series.
“Honestly we don’t talk much about rankings. We discuss mainly about doing the right things on the field. Australia is a quality team and things won’t be easy for us but I am pretty sure we will be up for it in Border Gavaskar Trophy,” said Rohit Sharma after India became the top team in ODIs.
ICC ODI Rankings: India became World No 1 ODI side after beating NewZealand in the three-match ODI series 2-1.
ICC T20 Rankings: Hardik Pandya-led India T20 team already sealed the top spot in T20s despite a 10-wicket thrashing against world champions England in the T20 WC semifinals. India went on to blank SriLanka to reclaim the spot.
ICC Test Rankings: How can India become World No 1 in Tests?
- Australia are placed at the number one place in ICC Test rankings with 126 rating points.
- India are placed second in the table with 115 and have a great chance to take the first spot.
- If India defeat Australia by 2-0 or 3-1, then they can topple Australia and become No 1 in ICC Test Rankings.
- A 1-1 or even a 1-0 win for India won’t be enough to surpass Australia.
- India also have the opportunity to seal their spot for the final match at World Test Championship.
