What is the qualification picture?

Each team earns 10 points for a win, five for a tie/no result/abandoned match, and zero for a loss.

The top eight teams will get a direct entry to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The remaining teams will have to play in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier along with five Associate teams. Two teams from the qualifying tournament will then progress to the World Cup. India automatically qualify on the account of being the tournament hosts.

Who is qualified for the ICC World Cup 2023?

  • As things stand, Bangladesh, England and Afghanistan are through to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
  • These teams can’t finish below the eight place and thus have qualified for the World Cup
  • India too are qualified for the World Cup as hosts despite sitting in the seventh place
  • Four more teams will join hands while two will qualify through the qualification process for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Currently South Africa can reach a maximum of 79 points and Sri Lanka can reach a maximum of 92 points and with three teams already out of the race for top 8, a team certain team needs a maximum of 93 or more points to qaulify for the ICC World Cup.

If Sri Lanka do lose another few matches in the ICC ODI Super League, the 93 points required will be lowered,

Who needs What for Quantification?

Pakistan: on 90 points, Pakistan will need to win one more match to guarantee a top 8 finish, With Sri Lanka reaching a maximum 92 Pakistan can secure qualification with a win

Sri Lanka: As things stand, Sri Lanka need other results to go their way and hope they finish with 92 points

Australia: With 6 fixtures in hand , Australia need 4 more wins or defeats for Sri Lanka and South Africa to guarantee a place in the World Cup

New Zealand: New Zealand need another win like Pakistan to secure their qualification, as they will guarantee a top 8 finish even if they lose the remaining matches

South Africa: Pulling out of Australia series in January 2023 could affect the Proteas, but with 79 points as a maximum limit they can reach, South Africa will need other scenarios going their way or else depend on the qualification round.

Teams that cant’t qualify directly and guaranteed to finish outside Top 8

Ireland, Zimbabwe, Netherlands
