ICC ODI Ranking: Mohammed Siraj ODI No. 1 bowler – India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj on Wednesday became the number one bowler in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers. Siraj went past New Zealand’s Trent Boult and Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood to become the top-ranked ODI bowler for the very first time. Mohammed Siraj was born in a humble family in Hyderabad, India in 1994. His father was an auto-rickshaw driver, and his mother is a housewife. Siraj was a promising and hardworking student who dreamed of playing professionally. As a young boy, he idolized legendary cricketer, Wasim Akram. From a very young age, Siraj was passionate about cricket and was determined to make a name for himself in the world of professional cricket.

Siraj’s dream of playing professionally did not come to fruition without a few bumps in the road. After he was dropped from the India Under-19 team, he was trolled for his lack of success. But Siraj refused to give in and continued to work hard. He believed in himself and was determined to prove the naysayers wrong.

28 years old pacer’s hard work paid off, In February 2017, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for 2.6 crores. In January 2018, he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auction. On 21 October 2020, he became the first bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to bowl back-to-back maiden overs in a single match.

Domestic Career:

Siraj made his first-class debut on 15 November 2015 for Hyderabad in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournament. He made his Twenty20 debut on 2 January 2016 in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. During the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournament, he was the highest wicket-taker for Hyderabad with 41 wickets at an average of 18.92.

In February 2018, Mohammed Siraj was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 23 dismissals in seven matches. In October 2018, he was named in India A‘s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. In October 2019, he was named in India B‘s squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.

International Career:

In November 2017, He made his T20I debut for India against New Zealand. He took the wicket of Kane Williamson, finishing with figures of 1 wicket for 53 runs from four overs. He was named in India’s Test squad for their series against the West Indies in September 2018, but he did not play. In December 2018, he was named in India’s One Day International squad. He made his ODI debut against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on 15 January 2019.

On 26 October 2020, Siraj was named in India’s Test squad for the series against Australia. Siraj was chosen ahead of Saini, and he made his Test debut for India on 26 December 2020, against Australia. His first Test wicket was of Marnus Labuschagne. In January 2021, during the fourth Test of the series against Australia, Siraj took his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Indian pacer Siraj’s form over the last 12 months has been imperious, but his effort in the ODI series at home earlier this month against Sri Lanka and New Zealand has shown just how much the right-armer has improved in recent times. Siraj took nine wickets against Sri Lanka to be the leading wicket-taker for the three-game series and backed that up by claiming a four-wicket haul in the opening match of the recently-completed series against New Zealand.

The right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj’s skillset in white-ball cricket, especially the 50-over format is promising in 2022. With Jasprit Bumrah often missing due to injury, Siraj emerged as the most potent weapon of the India pace unit. Siraj played 15 matches and picked up 24 wickets. His wickets came at an economy of 4.62, with best figures of 3/29.
